In addition to the new Straightline Barrel launched yesterday, Tippmann is also announcing at D-Day the launch of a new Pistol to the paintball industry. Because our dealers and core players have been asking for a premium pistol, we feel the opportunity exists for Tippmann to launch a better pistol, using brand new technology that will quickly make it the most sought after pistol on the market. Unfortunately at this time we cannot elaborate much beyond the fact that it will be .68 caliber, lightweight, compact, modifiable and have the Tippmann reliability our customers have come to expect.

At D-Day we will also be giving players an opportunity to sign up for a Sneak Peek email but of course as a Tippmann Dealer you will automatically be updated on a regular basis during the summer months. Although this pistol will not be available until the fall, we are launching at D-Day because we feel we are far enough along with this new technology and that the timing is right to announce an exciting new product to our core group of scenario players.

Tippmann is extremely excited with the initial response of our new products launched this year. The new U.S Army Alpha Black, the updated 98 Custom Platinum Series have surpassed our initial expectations by providing exceptional value to your customers and we feel our entry into this new category will further fuel the growth of paintball with the avid player.

Thanks for your continued support.

Looks an awful lot like the Tac 8. From that "picture", the rear site, body drop down to the barrel and the three bumps on the the front of the grip look the same. Hopefully it comes with a curved trigger, that's one thing I didn't like on my tac8.

Guess we'll have to see!

I refuse to believe it. How on earth are they going to fit the same internals as a 98 into a pistol? ;)

Lord knows its been the way they've invented "new" product for the last decade or so lol.....

been doing some digging, and one of the rumors is that tyler tiberius wants to get out of paintball to focus on the "Less Lethal" side of the tactical business, and that this "new pistol" may, in fact, be a result of him selling the rights to the Tac8 to Tippmann.... Which would make them lame as hell for offering up such a teaser for basically just tweaking and rebadging someone else's turnkey product line...

New news... well, kinda... There is a mentioning by someone "in the know" (supposedly) that this may actually be electo-pneumatic... How, I have no idea. Basically they're still teasing the crap out of people with this. The debut got pushed back to Tippmann World Cup/Challenge or something... anyone know when that is?

Wow it Tib did sold out thats pretty lame. I menat hey tippmann has great gear but I still think its lame that Tib would do that. If they cna fit some electopneumaticness into a pistol....WOW :D hope its a bit smaller to lol. The Tippmann World Cup (from what I know and have heard and have been told ect...) is October 26 and 27. I want to see this bad boy!

I read awhile ago about the electropneumatic operation. Then I believe it was released somewhere by someone from Tippmann that it was not going to be electropneumatic. I'll see if I can find that info again...

Well, this is it folks.... And while she IS a looker (IMO at least), its a big letdown overall. Let me explain why:

Only 8 shots
Individually changed CO2, and will NOT have a remote option as originally planned
Tippmann went out of their way to get forums not to allow this pic to be displayed because (supposedly) this is actually taken of a stolen prototype by whomever stole it (maybe if they weren't so shady on details and had people's curiosity so worked up they wouldn't have been so tempted to grab it?) and continue to not release any legitimate info about its operating system. It has however been confirmed to be mechanical and NOT electro-pneu as previously rumored.
Made mostly from the same plastic composite as the X7 mags and shrouds (which, I don't know about you but my mag was REALLY beat up from just one or two outings)

It IS lighter than a tac 8 by 30-40%, and will be released between $150-$200 (i would tend to lean toward the higher side) so its cheaper, but are you really getting anything more for your money? The only significant advantage I see right now over the Tac is that this accepts A5 threaded barrels. And I would wager it only takes 7/8" or thinner barrels at that so any hopes of fitting your shark tooth hammerhead or opsgear barrels is probably misplaced. Meanwhile, the Tac lets you have fresh CO2 with every mag change as a forgiveness for the inability to run a remote without having to reload mags in-field. My guess is that the Tippmann pistol will not be significantly more efficient or consistent than the Tac either. Reps are still dodging the "does it have a regulator" question.

I was pretty excited about this at first, but it looks to me that Tippmann made a big mistake by letting such rumor and anticipation build, because as it turns out, the rumored pistol (10-12 shots, electropneumatic, remote capable, etc) is a lot better than the real one. I certainly have no plans to trade in the Tac8 for one of these any time soon...

Way to blow it again Tippmann ;)

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :o
Looks funky!

I have to agree with you Rogue, they let us down again. By letting so many rumors ect... build the gun became a god when it really is a rat :(

It looks smaller then then the Tac, but the tac has many many good points compared to what I jsut read here.

I guess well all have to wait and see how it works out. Would love to get a few shots off with this see how it preforms.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, threaded barrel, lighter weight, etc, they're all pretty good features... But I don't find my tac to be that heavy, and the only things I really WANTED improved were the shot capacity, the ability to use a remote, and cheaper mags. Tippmann only scored on ONE of those. I'm willing to give it a shot and I'm still open to a change of heart if they release an extended mag that isn't ridiculous like SO's one for the T8, but even then you're stuck with 12 grams.

It seems to me that they took a lot of feedback from people for this pistol, but only those who would use it as a sidearm (which may be a bigger number of people than those who use it as a primary, but still). The guy who uses this as a sidearm won't have many complaints because he's not going to use it enough to get annoyed with changing 12 grams and only having 8 rounds per mag. But the guy who plays pistol as his primary and especially in pistol-only games is going to find it has all the disadvantages of an older Zeus or Ariakon PLUS a reduced shot capacity compared to them. I'd much rather have those extra 2 shots and constant air ability over being smaller and lighter than the Tac8.

This thing should have been designed around a grip that has enough room for an air-thru line or passage right from the start... Since the CO2 isn't in the mag, there's plenty of room for a macroline or even a hard line through the rear of the grip and up into the marker.

For someone looking for an inexpensive mag fed sidearm, this may still have merit, but I think the pistol primary player is still better off with either a Tac or a really modded cheap stacked-tube pistol. If I could get my air-thru gripped ACP2.0 to stop eating cup seals and sears I'd be in heaven- remote line AND easy-change TEN ROUND mags.

Yup that is true. For a person who uses this just as a side arm and nothing else, they will mostlikely love it. Id personally perfer the remote line setup anyday. Hopefully they will change it up a bit more before the finaly release!

Well just got this email from tippmann.

We at Tippmann are amazed at the number of posts and online discussions regarding the pistol we will be launching soon. Recently, an unauthorized photo was taken and then distributed on the web. We have asked a number of web sites to take down the prototype photo because of the poor image quality. As a T-Mail user, we are showing you for the first time a new shot of the pistol which is closer to how the final production version will look. But, please bear in mind this is still a prototype.

As a quick update to the pistol design, notice that the CO2 cartridge is located just beneath the barrel. It is not part of the magazine. This helps improve air efficiency, reduces the size of the grip and allows us to provide additional magazines at a great value. When completed, our pistol will have its own unique look and set a new standard for the pistol category in performance and reliability.

And heres the pic they sent along...looks better, gives me a better outlook for the gun....:-\

I don't know about the whole "When completed, our pistol will have its own unique look and set a new standard for the pistol category in performance and reliability."

yeah, especially since now they're saying it only gets 18-20 shots per 12 gram.... "To improve efficiency" my arse.... I can get at least 24 out of a T8 mag.

Ya definitely. I think the unfinished look really turned me off and made me think of a plastic toy. The black and all the parts look good.
