I am here to report that the Red Hawks Scenario team did a great job at Stalingrad 2008.

We ran many assault missions throughout the day and our presence was known all over the field. We also had some of our new guys really step up throughout the day which was really good.

I just wanted to say overall great job to everyone on the team and I hope we continue to play at this high level we preformed at yesterday.

Good to hear man, but how about some more info? What side did you play on? Who won? What was the score?

And on a personal note, have you been to any skirmish events before this, and do you feel they've improved their safety/reffing?

We were on the Russian Side, unfortunately we lost but Stalingrad typically ends in a German victory. The score was something like 30something to 60something. The turning point of the game was after the Russian side scored points for holding a town just about all the people walked out of the town. We started yelling at everyone to get back into the town. Apparently all the "walk ons" were satisfied with 3 points. After the major force left it was over run by Germans which led to a big shift in field positioning and ended with the Allies being cornered in by tippmann castle.

This was actually my forth Skirmish scenario (Stalingrad/ION/Berlin '07, and Stalingrad '08)

I do think they improved their safety, there were refs all over and for once when you yelled medic someone was actually there to check you and mark if you got hit. They kept a good eye out for wiping and illegal paint. Overall I was very pleased with the refs

Also they changed the format a little. Usually you have to hang your flag to score points in an area which presents the possibility of the other team capturing your flag. They did away with this and made it that you just have to turn a poll to your team color to score points. At first I didn't think I would like it. By the end of the day I actually thought it wasn't bad. I still prefer hanging flags
Another change was (if you have gone to a skirmish scenario before you understand) they actually made the platoons on your card mean something, well our general did. He got all the platoons together and gave them a designated commander and specific missions for the beginning of the game. It was interesting and I liked it.

Good to know their trying to organize the unorganized better. Nelson made such a huge impact at ION last year just by pushing walk-ons together at the beach. That's actually what I plan on doing this year - I have no intention what-so-ever at getting shot running into those trees just so some 14 year old can cower behind a bunker and unload hoppers into my back.

The real hits on the beach come from friendly fire, not the Germans.
